The goals of the Witches project is to geolocate data and to educate students on visual data.

The first goal of this project is to geographically locate and visualize the different locations of witches recorded within the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft Database to be interpreted by individuals. This is exemplified by the project’s analysis of the data and then taking that data and identifying different locations of witches in Scotland.
Another goal of this project was to educate students on visual data. The project looks to educate students on working with real world dataset, which the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft Database allows these students to be able to learn. The real world data of witches combined with visualizing the data teaches students how to link cultural data to current situations.
Both of these goals are introduced on the about page of the Witches project. The goal of geolocating aligns with the digital humanities goal of analyzing and interpreting cultural data because once these locations are inputted, individuals can then look at these maps and further interpret the data. The project aims to produce visual data of witches to provide students and other individuals information on where witches were located and tried from 1563-1736.
