Technologies and Tools
Detailed Tool (Voyant Tools): Voyant is an open-source, web-based application for performing text analysis. It allows the project to take a newsletter’s text and instantly see which words (like “writing,” “revision,” or “community”) are the most prominent, providing a “distant reading” of the program’s values.
Overview: This project uses Omeka S for the archival database and Voyant Tools for analyzing the frequency of older terms in the newsletters.
Sustainability and Best Practices
Following DH best practices, this project utilizes OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to make text data machine-readable. The data will be organized using Dublin Core metadata to ensure the project is interoperable with other education-based archives. The project will be hosted on a platform that supports open access, ensuring that the “supportive and dynamic community” of writers described in 2017 remains visible to future students.
