Discipline 1: Biology
Biology is the scientific study of life. The study of life is a broad statement, encompassing everything from the smallest bacteria to the largest mammals, such as the humpback whale. To include all biotic factors of the world, biology can be broken down into sub disciplines such as:
- Molecular and Cell Biology
- Genetics and Evolution
- Physiology and Anatomy
- E ology and Environmental Biology
The heart of biological studies lies in the scientific method, or some form of empirical practice. The scientific method is a way of formulating controlled experiments and analyzing results to gather explanatory results.

Discipline 2: Digital Humanities
The digital humanities is an interdisciplinary field that uses digital tools to study, preserve, and share human culture. The digital humanities aim to create a domain of easily accessible information that enables the general public to interact with and interpret it. Digital Humanities vitalizes visual organization to provide digital users with a well-organized vault of abundant information. Digital humanists can execute these operations by:
- Preserving older sources through digitization
- Using databases to store data about history
Overall, digital humanities are what allow the everyday person to be in tune and informed of the world around them.
The Symbiosis of the two Disciplines
Biology and Digital Humanities are fields that are distinctly different, but their diversity is what makes them valuable when combined as a team. In projects such as the one about the 1918 pandemic, both fields collaborate to inform the general public, focusing on data that, although diverse, are equally effective in helping to educate humanity about the 1918 pandemic.
