For example, the map above displays the geographical tags for materials within the Zines Collection, an archive housing “privately produced and distributed magazines that have been popular among marginalized groups as a means of community-wide communication.” Within the DTA, clicking on each circle will zoom in on that portion of the map to refine the search for the desired inquiry. Thus, the use of Leaflet within the DTA provides researchers with alternative search tools and ways to spatially analyze mapped archival material.

Ultimately, Leaflet’s dynamic use within the DTA supports transdisciplinary application to both fields of Queer Studies and Digital Humanities because of their shared goals to preserve, publish, and provide access to cultural data in innovative ways. Moreover, the use of Leaflet within DH is already popular and intuitive; according to the blog “Mapping the Humanities,” published by The University of Texas at Austin in 2015, Leaflet is widely used in DH projects because it “stands out for its comparatively long history, extensive documentation, and wide base of contributors and volunteers.”

Leaflet is an open-source JavaScript library that allows users to create interactive, customized, and mobile-friendly maps within their websites or blogs.
