It&#8217;s a great project specifically because it goes beyond the physical location and explores its ordinary residents&#8211; the people that make it unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#007fcf\">Location<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harlem is located in New York City, in the northern section of Manhattan. In the 1920s, the neighborhood covered 48 blocks and housed 73,000 residents. Within 10 years, it grew to 200,000 people. Harlem spanned from 110th street south to 160th north. While the neighborhood was predominantly black, anyone could find a home here. It was seen as a safe space for any minority ranging from Dutch, to Italian, to Jewish.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harlem birthed the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harlem_Renaissance\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harlem_Renaissance\">Harlem Renaissance <\/a> which helped open up the conversation of reform. Famous renaissance activists like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Langston_Hughes\">Langston Hughes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alain_LeRoy_Locke\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alain_LeRoy_Locke\">Alain Locke<\/a> resided here. Harlem gave black creators an elevated platform to show the world that black people could be intellectual, artistic, and everything in between. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remarkable thing about this project is its focus on the individuals that lived in Harlem. With access to public sources and archives, they are able to record everyday people and locations of their hangout spots, parties, robberies, and assaults.
