Values of This Project

The importance of Digital Humanities at large is the expansion of learning and understanding ourselves and others through new means. Digital humanities give way to easier access to documents and information about other cultures or our own in order to study and understand. Most of the world today uses the internet or technology in some way and the way we use it can tell a lot about us. The way we use it and the information we put out there is also a great source of cultural insight, especially when it adheres to the important values such as collectiveness.

Collective value is one of the main values of this project. By reconstructing and digitizing maps of Paris people from both France and other cultures can learn the history of a very popular city and are therefore able to reconstruct and replicate exactly what was done in this project, something that is a very important part of DHM according to Lisa Spiro, a scholar and author of Digital Humanities.

This collective memory would come into play with different generations contributing to how they see Paris and how they have watched it changed while simultaneously comparing it to the Paris of the past.
