There has been a distinct lack of objectively-written American history  textbooks in the American education system, with most books being written from some degree of a <a href=\"https:\/\/historynewsnetwork.org\/article\/7219\">triumphalist<\/a> perspective. The open source nature of The American Yawp lends itself to the development of objective content by compiling many different sources and perspectives. Their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanyawp.com\/text\/contributors\/\">list of contributors<\/a> contains some big names from the world of Digital Humanities, as well as dozens of historians from respected universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/classprojects.digitalwcu.org\/YawpSquad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Textbook-Cost.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-123\" width=\"254\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/classprojects.digitalwcu.org\/YawpSquad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Textbook-Cost.jpg 495w, https:\/\/classprojects.digitalwcu.org\/YawpSquad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Textbook-Cost-242x300.jpg 242w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><figcaption>Textbook prices are high enough to make education seem infeasible<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project&#8217;s main motive, however, is to provide a high quality and reputable history textbook at no cost. Traditional textbooks often come with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/feature\/freshman-year\/college-textbook-prices-have-risen-812-percent-1978-n399926\">exorbitant price tag<\/a>, which only exacerbates the issue of higher education&#8217;s financial inaccessibility.  The editors looked at their own experiences with college finances and knew that they could be a force for change.
