Cities and Memory shows this by letting anyone record and share sounds, creating a shared archive of human and environmental experiences. The project encourages community involvement, creativity, and interactive exploration, showing how DH promotes open, collective ways of creating and understanding culture.

In Cities and Memory, geography and Digital Humanities come together. Geography’s focus on people, places, and environments is combined with DH’s emphasis on collaboration and digital tools. Mapping sounds to real locations shows geographic values, while allowing anyone to contribute reflects DH values of participation and shared knowledge. Together, the project documents places and invites a global community to explore and understand human experiences.

A core value of geography is understanding the relationships between people and their environments.
