Other projects

First project

I chose this project to compare to my ideas because of the fact that it is from a Penn State satellite campus–Eberly College of Science. Penn State has a much larger student population than West Chester, so I want to see how they did it for a larger group.

The first paragraph of the website reads:

“The Grove Center has hosted book club discussions since 2017. The book club discussions are informal community gatherings open to anyone who has an interest in participating in the conversations on the assigned readings. Below is the list of books the Grove Center has selected for our book club discussions.”

For this idea, they use assigned readings that students can choose to participate in. I also agree with that idea of chosen readings, but I want it to be student-led, which the page doesn’t specify.

Second project

This club is from Kent State, in Ohio. With this, they focus more on the how of creating a club.

It recommends shorter books, short session times, and more formatted meetings.

I definitely considered those ideas, and I liked the idea of leaving a month to read the book in its entirety. I feel like having the meetings be so short and scheduled is limiting for those who are passionate about the genre or the books themselves.
