This tool downloads and processes country reported trade data from UN Comtrade, in SITC & HS classifications. It then pulls the latest country reported data based on previous data downloaded and outputs that data aggregated by year for requested classification, while also storing raw files downloaded by Comtrade.

Does Digital Humanities utilize a comtrade downloader? Not really… This tool strictly looks at international comtrade data, so a professional studying human culture would not necessarily use this tool unless they were specifically studying historical trade networks, globalization, relationships between countries, or how economic activity changed over time. On the flip side, this tool does require Python, a frequently used tool in DH. Professionals in DH use Python to analyze large amounts of digital information that would be difficult to examine manually. For example, a DH researcher might have thousands of historical documents, books, newspaper articles, or social-media posts. A professional would then use Python to analyze these texts, organize and remove errors from information collected from different sources, and identify patterns, themes, or relationships across thousands of documents.

Analysis:

Altough the comtrade downloader does not relate to Digital Humanities, it does utilize Python, a seperate tool frequently used for DH projects around the world.
