The project that I chose is called girls who code. The founder of this project was Reshama Saujani who was at the time an activist and the first American Indian to run for the U.S. Congress.

She decided to start up this project after she visited a computing classroom and seeing how big the gender gap between males and females were.

Girls who code was founded in 2012 in New York City
Girls Who Code is important to because it empowers young women with coding skills needed to innovate in the field. By bringing diverse perspectives and technical abilities, GWC graduates help create more inclusive, critically aware DH projects.
