Anticipated Results<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the Waterfront Community Commons is fully realized, it would generate significant benefits for Southeast DC residents and the broader city. On the housing side, new affordable and mixed-income units would help stabilize long-term residents, reduce rent burdens, and make it possible for a wider range of households to live near the river. By combining housing with neighborhood-serving retail and services, the project would reduce the need for long trips to access basic goods, while creating jobs and opportunities for local entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and environmental outcomes would also improve. New parks, gardens, and waterfront trails would provide safe spaces for walking, exercise, and relaxation, supporting better physical and mental health. Increased tree canopy and green infrastructure would reduce heat stress, manage stormwater more effectively, and improve the overall environmental quality of the riverfront. Socially, the Commons would offer a visible, welcoming public realm where neighbors can gather, participate in events, and build connections across age, race, and income.
