There are two main tools that were utilized in the process of creating this project that ultimately came hand-in-hand with each other. These two tools consist of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. OpenStreetMap<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Leaflet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The first tool listed, OpenStreetMap (OSM)<\/a>, is an open-data source which provides extremely accurate mapping data to users. Such tool was used in this project to display the collected data in an accurate, geographical visual which is the map of Scotland. OSM is frequently being updated to accommodate for changes within any given area regarding roads, railway stations, trails etc. The majority of the data collection is done by a large group of contributors, who use aerial imagery, GPS devices, and low-tech field maps to verify that OSM is accurate and up to date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Methods of this project involves a combination of data collection, digitization, cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as website design and development, to make historical information more accessible and usable for research and education.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The project team collects historical records related to the Scottish witch hunts, including court records, contemporary pamphlets, and other primary sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The collected data is entered into a database and digitized, making it easier to search and analyze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Data Cleaning and Normalization<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    The collected data is checked for errors and inconsistencies, and standardized to ensure that it is consistent and usable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Data Analysis and Data Visualization<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    The project team uses various tools and techniques to analyze the collected data, such as statistical analysis and data visualization. The results of this analysis are presented on the website in various forms, including interactive maps, charts, and tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Website Design and Development <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    The website is designed and developed to provide an intuitive and user-friendly interface for accessing the collected data and analysis results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Finally, website design and development is a critical step in making the data and analysis results accessible to users. The website must be designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, with features such as search functions, filters, and interactive maps. The team must also ensure that the website is responsive and accessible to users with different devices and abilities. The team needs to consider issues such as loading times, browser compatibility, and data security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Publishing and Dissemination<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    The website is made publicly available, allowing scholars and the general public to access the collected data and analysis results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Overall, the critical steps of the “Surveying the Scottish Witch Hunt” project involve a combination of historical research, data management, analysis, and website development.
