Introduction

For DHM280 we were asked to analyze the connection between Digital Humanities and another work in an academic field. I am a psychology major so I decided to do a study that focuses on cognitive psychology and digital humanities. Cognitive psychology focuses on our brain and how we learn and think.

This study looks at how using avatars that look like you, and different virtual hangout spots, change the way people connect and act in VR over time. With almost 220 people joining in over 8 weeks, the researchers tracked how peoples movements and feelings of “being there” grew as they spent more time together. It’s an interesting combination of psychology and digital humanities, showing how tech doesn’t just change behavior but also how we see ourselves and connect with others in digital worlds.
