The Archive of Malian Photography focuses on preserving and archiving the photographs captured by a group of 6 internationally recognized Malian photographers. The photographers include Mamadou Cissé, Félix Diallo, Adama Kouyaté, Abdourahmane Sakaly, Malick Sidibé, and Tijani Sitou. The 101,000 photographs captured by these photographers show the social, political and cultural changes of Mali during the 1940’s and 1990’s. Dr. Keller from Michigan State University (MSU) began the project in 2002, and through support, grew into the Archive website published in 2011 that highlights 6 important photographers. The 101,000 photographs archived on the site are based in Bamako, Mali to protect the original negatives while being managed by a conservation team of family representatives of the website’s leading photographers.
