Evaluation.

At first glance, it was clear that the “Paris Past and Present” project was quite relevant to the topic of Digital Humanities. After coming to an agreeance, our group decided that this was the project we wanted to review further for our site. We then created a plan and got to work. This is the result…

Reviewing The Site

The site itself was simple to explore, utilizing tabs to categorize the different aspects of the project. The purpose of the project was clearly stated on the home page and reiterated throughout the site. The “About Us” tab did a great job of presenting the contributors and the “Reconstructions” tab laid out all the different reconstructed 3D models through a “drop-down” tab. Each 3D model had their own page and included a small section for the history of the monument that was reconstructed. The site even had a blog section where the visitors of the site could comment on the work that was being presented.

In Summary…

Overall the site was very easy to use and displayed all of the information about the project in a orderly fashion. Our team had no challenges with reviewing this site.

Creating Our Site

Our team used WordPress to create our site and never had any issues with the program itself. The functions of the site-creator were cut and dry, and the tools were self-explanatory. In our team meetings, we noted the feedback and adjusted accordingly. We played around with the layout theme and changed some things around before finally settling on the sites current layout. Given the fact that this is the first time some of our team has ever created a website, we feel as though we did fairly well.

Challenges

For the most part, we feel as though our project went pretty smoothly. We only ran into a couple of challenges, however, we managed to adapt and press on to finishing the project. The obvious challenge would be the disconnect caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Given that our University is mostly online, it becomes quite challenging to coordinate when working in groups. Another challenge would be the fact that everyone in our group had different schedules, and it was hard to get everyone to attend the team meetings.

Conclusion

Despite the challenges listed above, our group was able to stay connected remotely and communicate effectively and efficiently, which ultimately resulted in our finishing the project. We were able to work as a team through any shortcomings and kept each other accountable for each other’s sections of the sites. Overall, we are happy with our team and hope that our hard work can be appreciated throughout the rest of the site.
